The Ultimate Volcanic Expedition

Witness the ethereal beauty of Mount Bromo as the sun rises over the Tengger caldera. This active volcano offers a lunar-like landscape that has captivated travelers for decades. It is a must-visit for any serious photographer.

Continue your journey to the Ijen Crater, home to the world-famous electric blue fire. This rare phenomenon is caused by sulfuric gases igniting upon contact with the air. It is a sight that few people on earth ever get to witness in person.

Highlights

  • Witness the world-famous sunrise over the Mount Bromo volcanic complex.
  • Hike to the rim of the active Bromo crater and hear the roar of the earth.
  • Discover the rare electric Blue Fire phenomenon inside the Ijen Crater.
  • Enjoy a scenic cross-Java road trip with private transport and local expertise.

💡 Local Insider Tips & Regulations

Our licensed local guides recommend leaving all silver jewelry at your hotel before hiking Ijen Crater. The high concentration of sulfur in the air can cause silver to tarnish and turn black almost instantly. For the best photography at Bromo, ask your guide to take you to a “secret” viewpoint away from the main crowds for a cleaner shot of the caldera.

Please note that current safety regulations require all visitors to provide a basic health certificate for volcanic trekking. Our team will assist you in obtaining this locally or through a quick online screening to ensure you are fit for the high-altitude conditions. For more general safety info, visit the official Indonesia tourism site.

⚠️ Notice: The Blue Fire

The Ijen Blue Fire is a rare, naturally occurring phenomenon. Its visibility is strictly dependent on daily volcanic activity, weather conditions, and current Ijen Crater National Park safety regulations. We cannot guarantee that you will see the Blue Fire during your hike. Please consult with our travel experts regarding the current crater conditions before making your booking.

2. What should I pack for the volcanic treks?

Temperatures can drop to 5°C (41°F) at night and early morning. We recommend packing warm layers, a windbreaker, sturdy hiking shoes, and a small backpack. We provide the necessary gas masks for Ijen.

3. How difficult are the hikes at Bromo and Ijen?

The Bromo hike is relatively easy and takes about 20-30 minutes. The Ijen trek is moderate to difficult, involving a steep 1.5-hour climb to the crater rim. A reasonable level of fitness is required.

Yes, we can drop you off at Juanda International Airport (SUB) in Surabaya or any hotel in the city center. We recommend booking a flight that departs after 5:00 PM on the final day.
